TGIF!

I'm tired today. I just couldn't seem to crawl out of bed at my usual Early Hour and finally emerged from the covers at 7 AM, two hours later than normal! I stumbled straight for the shower and was thankful that the hot water rushing over me did seem to wake me up some. A couple cups of Starbucks Breakfast Blend also helped!

I hate getting up late. I miss those quiet morning moments with my cup of coffee and my Bible, before the house springs to life. I miss the uninterrupted time at the computer, where I check my calendar and my email and sneak a peek at a blog or two. I even miss my morning exercise time, I think!

When I don't get up early, I find that I am thrown right into the craziness of the day, with no time to prepare my spirit. A typical morning scene involves the big boys rushing around trying to make their lunches, pull their school uniforms out of the dryer, pack their gym bags and book bags, find the truck keys and spill out of the house in a mad dash for school. Meanwhile, my oldest daughter is scurrying around trying to complete her morning agenda and pull together her "fashionista look" and make it to school before her students do! My husband is also trying to eat his breakfast and get out the door on time. That means I'm usually bustling about helping everyone find missing items, signing permission slips and progress reports, mediating and mothering, and sometimes doing some last-minute ironing!

Finally, the crowd clears and a degree of calmness settles over the house, and my younger crew ventures to the kitchen for their breakfast. They've learned that is generally better to let the smoke clear before they come eat!

Breakfast is followed by Chore time, Bible and Character Quality time, and School time. Then, as you can imagine, the rest of the day is often a blur of responsiblities, chores, errands, and other activites! So, if I don't enjoy those peaceful, contemplative moments early each day -- I often never find another time to claim them.

Well, back to why I'm so tired today. It may be because I worked so hard yesterday. I cleaned out all the kitchen cabinets, wiping them down inside and out, and re-organized all of their contents. I also cleaned and organized the pantry. I forgot to take a picture before I started, but here is an After-shot of the pantry:

I wish I had taken a before picture of the cereal cabinet to show you, because it was a huge mess! But I think you'll enjoy this picture more -- this is Luke, who really got "into" his job of wiping out the cereal cabinet and organizing it for me!

While I worked hard in the kitchen, the little ones played with some scented play-dough that I made for them. I quit making play dough years ago because it always ended up in the carpet, but now that we have hardwood floors, I decided to give it another try! They really enjoyed using the rolling pin and cookie cutters and making some fun creations, and it kept them constructively occupied while I worked.

This play dough has a nice texture and it smells good too! Pictured above is Strawberry and Lime! If you want to stir up a batch of your own scented play dough, here is the recipe:

Scented Play Dough
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 TBSP oil
1 TBSP cream of tarter
1 (3 1/2 oz.) pkg. jello

Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until dough clumps onto spoon. Dump out on waxed paper and when cool enough to handle, knead with floured hands until a smooth dough forms. Cool completely and store in an airtight container for several weeks.

I'm very honored to know that you like my pics! They certainly aren't the caliber of yours -- I'm no photographer!!! :) Just a mom having some fun, making and capturing some memories! Blogging is a lot easier than scrapbooking, which I never can seem to find time for anymore! Thanks for reading and leaving comments on my blog!

By the way, do you still have that zuchini chocolate chip bread that you made and brought us? We would love to get that recipe!

Merry Christmas Y'all!!
