The Box

Today is Super Bowl Sunday. You may not even be aware of that fact (not likely if you live in the USA!), or you may not even care! But. . . . if you live in a house with a husband and 6 sons, and if those fellas happen to be football players and/or football fans, then you are well aware of this important event!

I enjoy watching the Super Bowl some, too. But, I know that my primary responsiblity for the day is to put together Super-sized bowls of chips and dip and tortilla chips and salsa and Super-sized platters of "Dagwood sandwiches!" Then, I'll need to top that off with something rich and chocolatey for dessert. In addition, I must make sure there is plenty of diet coke and sweet tea to wash everything down with. Add to that, a few rolls of paper towels to clean up messy hands and plates that spill when guys jump to their feet in excitement over a Big Play!

However, because of The Dilemma, and because I've already spent too much of this month's grocery money on essentials, and because there are still too many days left before the next grocery installment to waste money on "junk food," I've been worrying about how I was going to put together a Super Bowl Spread for the guys . . .

Then, on Friday night, the children and I were enjoying a quiet evening at home (while Alan and the boys were at the basketball game), when we received a call to look by the garage door. To our amazement, there was a HUGE BOX sitting in our driveway, stuffed to overflowing with all kinds of snacks and foods perfect for any Super Bowl Party! We couldn't believe all the food in that box!!! There were huge packages of lunch meat and cheese, kaiser rolls, potato chips, tortilla chips, 7-layer dip, salsa, meatballs, mini pizzas, popcorn, chex mix, brownies, chocolate chip cookie dough, etc. It was an Amazing Box of Encouragement from a group of ladies, known as "The Committee!!"

"The Committee" had no idea of our Dilemma. They just wanted to encourage my husband after a Difficult Week of Local Government Politics . . . and in the process, they blessed us all immensely and provided for a great Super Bowl Party!!! Of course, we know that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights . . ." (James 1:17), and we thank our Heavenly Father for this provision!!!

Isn't God amazing how he can even provide the wonderful extras that make life so rich! This past weekend at a museum food court an older gentleman walked up and handed me some money. He was the oldest of 9 and was just so blessed to see a big family that he wanted to help buy our lunch.

I just love this God of ours! We had a big spread too, we usually do for the big games. I get to go have an extended quiet time though, I LOVE THAT! It's a trade off we made years ago. Now I pray the Red Wings make it to the playoffs, do you know how many games those guys play before the Stanley cup series, so cool!

Wow, what a blessing to receive exactly what you were lacking just in time for the big event. Our God really cares!
