Senior Night

Friday night was the last regular season game for all of the school's basketball teams and also Senior Recognition Night. A night for looking back and remembering . . . a night for looking ahead and anticipating . . .

First, we watched the B team boys easily win their game. Josh (#42) and Joe (#22) both ended the season on a good note. Then, we worked the concession stand during the varsity girl's game. After that, we participated in the senior recognition before watching the varsity boy's game.

When it was our turn, we walked to half court, hand in hand, Alan on one side of Taylor and me on the other side, while the announcer read a list of Taylor's accomplishments and his expressions of gratefulness to those who had contributed to his successes. I was not expecting such enthusiastic applause and loud cheers from the crowd for our senior! Neither was I expecting the huge bear hug that Taylor gave me at half court. A surge of love and pride swept through me at that moment . . . emotions felt by everymother whose son has grown into a fine young man overnight. My heart overflowed and spilled onto my cheeks, not just for what my "baby" has accomplished, but for the young man he has become and the character he has demonstrated . . . .

The varsity boys won their game 71-52 to end their season with 18 victories! All of the seniors started. Taylor played well, hustled, rebounded, jumped up and intercepted a pass with his long arms. He looked good and it felt like "old times." It was so exciting to watch him playing -- for all of about 4 or 5 minutes . . . Then, it was back to the pine . . . big sigh.

A bittersweet ending to what should have been an Exciting Senior Season . . .
