Celebrating birthdays

Happy Independence Day!!!

Today we celebrate America's birthday, and yesterday we celebrated Matthew's birthday. A pretty appropriate combination, since Matt thinks his birthday should qualify as a national holiday! :)

Matthew has been asking for months how many days until his birthday, and it was hard for him to believe that the day he had been waiting for had finally arrived!

Here is a picture of him at dinner, sitting by Mum Mum, enjoying his turn with the red "You are Special" plate. At our house the birthday child gets to request his favorite meal, within reason! Matt chose Barbeque "chicken bones" (i.e., drumsticks!), macaroni and cheese, cooked carrots, and I added a salad.

Matt absolutely LOVES being the center of attention, which makes his birthday even more fun for him!!

Matthew couldn't wait for dinner to be over so he could blow out his seven candles and eat his birthday cake!

(Gotta love those delicious Publix cakes!)

Then it was the moment he had been waiting for so impatiently -- time to open his presents!

A water blaster for the pool . . .

A baseball mit and training baseball for the aspiring little leaguer . . .

A Cars Wii game . . .

Some pistols and a holster to play cowboy . . .

And some money!

What more could a 7 year old boy want??

He even has a sister eager to be his side kick!!! :)

It was a good birthday for Matt -- and only 365 days until his next one!!! :)

We have plans for swimming and cooking out this afternoon, so I better go and finish getting things together for our family July 4th celebration. Have a great Independence Day!

At dinner tonight, Amber and Anna remembered we were together that July 4th Matthew was born. They remembered watching fireworks at a church with the family, and you even let me attend Matthew's birth! I haven't thought of that for a very long time...

Well, happy birthday to Matthew!
