Chilling Out in the Condo

While the weather has been perfect this week, and the beach irresistible, we have also enjoyed spending time in our cozy little cottage just "chilling out" and taking a break from the sun.

Unfortunately, every time we walked into the condo, the TV drew the children like a magnet. There were even a few power struggles over who was going to control the remote. (Have you ever noticed that "remote control" is a man thing?!?) We encouraged them to watch some movies of our choosing as much as possible.

Still, we didn't want them glued to the tube all of the time! Whenever we pried them away, they actually engaged in a variety of interesting activities. They played board games, such as this game of Homeschoolopoly . . .

They fought nerf sword battles and played legos and Polly Pockets . . . .

They searched for the baby kittens who had been born under the cottage, and looked for snapping turtles and alligators in the lagoon . . .

And they snuggled and snoozed . . .

All of that playing in the ocean does make you terribly Tired!

Perhaps you are wondering what Lori and I did to occupy ourselves? Well, first of all, we kept the washer and dryer going pretty much all of the time, just so it would feel like "home." ;) And since all of that fun in the sun produces some hearty appetites, we spent some quality time in the kitchen preparing food for the troops! The following pictures are from Soft Taco night. We also made Sloppy Joes, Spaghetti, Meatball Subs, and Chicken Alfredo.

Aha! I caught a "snitcher" in the picture!!! :)

Definitely the best meal of the week was Lori's Special Breakfast, which she made on Friday morning, to top off our week. She made scrambled eggs and bacon and then whipped up some of her mom's famous biscuits! YUM!

It was even better than Cracker Barrell!! :)

We also washed a few dishes along the way. I love these pictures, which illustrate Lori's diligence and creativity!! Not only did she wash this huge stack of cups, but she had fun stacking them into this playful pyramid to dry!

We also talked a lot! To each other, of course, but we also talked on our cell phones -- Lori had to deal with some issues pertaining to her book business, and we both talked to our husbands and our older kids at home . . . and when we weren't talking to them, we were texting them!

And then we talked some more! Hey, we do have a lot to catch up on now that we live six hours away!!!

And we ate ice cream, of course! I will let you guess which dainty serving was mine . . .

and which one was Lori's! ;)

We also enjoyed our social networking sessions!! It was a blessing to have WiFi in the condo this year! That enabled us to add an email check to our morning coffee and chats on the back porch. Then, we had our evening laptop sessions, where we read and discussed some interesting emails we had received, shared Facebook statuses, and posted blog updates! Yes, it is a brave new world! :)

Our crowning accomplishment was setting up a blog for Lori! Ever since I started blogging, I've been encouraging her to start a blog. She really wanted to, but she's been too busy to breathe. So, we sat down together and I helped her launch her blog. You've got to check it out! Lori is a knowledgable and creative person, a deep thinker, and an incredible writer, and on top of that, she has a very interesting life! So, I know you will love her blog! Don't be alarmed if it feels like deja vu when you read about her trip to the beach! :)
