My Saturday Morning Surprise!

Saturday morning, I got up early and was sitting in my favorite chair in the family room, snuggled up in a blanket, with both my laptop and my Bible in my lap, enjoying the blessed stillness that precedes a busy day, and sipping a cup of hot coffee flavored with vanilla latte creamer, when I received a text message saying, "Ah, I think I need coffee!" The sender - my daughter, Ashlyn. I texted back an offer to make her a strong cup of "home brew" . . . and she texted back that she might just have to take me up on that offer! A playful exchange. My thoughts turned to how we love to drink coffee together, flavored with delicious conversation, on our cozy front porch. But, alas, I knew Ashlyn was six hours away, exhausted from an especially busy work week . . .

A few moments later, the stillness of the morning was interrupted by a quiet knock on the front door, making me jump! When I cautiously opened the door, this is what I saw:

Was I dreaming!?! What a wondrous sight!! I soon had two cups of steaming coffee in hand, and we made our way to favorite porch rockers for some precious moments of mother-daughter heart-talk, before the household sprang to life and we were forced to share our secret!

Bethany stumbled from her quilted cocoon, warm, and sleep-flushed and rubbed her eyes to see if she were still dreaming -- there was her "special honey" standing before her! It is impossible for little sisters to understand why older sisters leave for school or work -- and don't come home for weeks and weeks and weeks . . .

It was such a treasure to have Ashlyn home! She spent her day snuggling with the little ones . . .

Eating cookie dough that Bethany made for her . . .

Helping with the chores . . .

Eating dinner at Logan's . . .

Watching Joe's theatrical debut . . .

And just enjoying her family.

Sunday was church -- Ashlyn sang and Tiffany accompanied. When we got home, she squeezed in a quick nap, then ate lunch with the fam, drew her name for the Christmas sibling gift exchange . . .

And then, it was time to say good-bye . . .

How can a weekend go by so fast????

I loved your heart-warming post! Your Ashlyn is so beautiful - inside and out!
What a blessed heritage you have laid as a foundation for your children, when they come back home and want to spend such special times with you.
I really enjoyed reading this today. Helped me see the road that may lay ahead.

Thanks for this post! I love it when you post things like this! It really helps me keep things in perspective.

My oldest just turned 4, I have a 2 year old, and a 8 month old. This is a really busy season of my life and since we are trusting God with our family size, sometimes I wonder when the "busyness" will end.

On one hand I love it, on the other its kinda "crazy" Nevertheless, post like this help me to see what I have to look forward to!
