Celebrating a Son's Birth

"For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given . . . " -- Isaiah 9:6

That is what I wrote on the front of my handmade birth announcements 17 years ago when my third son, Joseph Andrew, was born on December 21st.

As if bringing a new baby home from the hospital wasn't exciting enough, it snowed that day, much to the delight of Joseph's four excited brothers and sisters, all of whom were eager for a turn to hold their new "toy!"  It was truly a special, quiet, family-centered Christmas that year!!

This year the pace is much more hectic, the house nosier, our lives full of hustle and bustle and school and jobs, and Joe long ago gave up his spot as baby of the family!

However, Joe is well loved by family and friends because of his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and fun personality!

Joe had school and basketball practice during the day, but we celebrated his birthday that evening with a special meal of Shrimp and Grits, Tossed Salad and Yeast Rolls, all served on the Red Plate!  It is a long-standing tradition at our house to serve the person being Honored on the red "You are Special" plate.  (Think birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, mother's day, father's day, special accomplishments, etc.)  Dinner was followed by a yummy chocolate caramel torte, and birthday presents, of course!

Here are a couple pictures from Joe's celebration:

Happy Birthday Joe!  We love you!   :)

You are getting lazy on me...a tantilizing, gooey, delicious looking dessert..but no recipe included in the post! :)
That looks so incredible....of course with caramel you can't go wrong...especially when combined with chocolate! You must post the recipe! (...and thanks in advance!)

Joe has really grown up! (I am so anxious for my boy to grow older, and not be the "pesky little brother"!)I hope he was able to enjoy his special day! I missed seeing Abby there with the family celebrating this important occasion....though not as much as Joe I'm sure!
