All in a Day: Honoring Our Mothers

Today the All in a Day bloggers are talking about our mothers and how we celebrate Mother's Day.

My thoughtful husband started a tradition many years ago of preparing the meal for Mother's Day and honoring me, my mom and his mother on that day.  So, most years he made the bulk of the food -- and he always did a great job, usually grilling salmon or steak and relying on the girls to help him with the side dishes.  It was always a special meal!  After dinner, he usually banned me from the kitchen and he and the children cleaned up the mess and washed all those dirty dishes!  (And you know how it is when your husband and children cook for you -- the kitchen is usually TRASHED when they are done!)  ;)

This year will be quite different, however.  This is the first year we won't have Alan's mother with us, as she passed away shortly after Mother's Day last year.  You can read about our last Mother's Day with her here.  I am planning to go spend Mother's Day with my Mom in South Carolina, so I think Alan is secretly planning to take the older boys to his favorite all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant, which is about a half hour away!!  (Don't tell him that I saw through his scheme!)  Therefore, it will be a very different Mother's day for us this year.

I want to take this opportunity to honor my Mom and share with you what a treasure she is!  This picture of us was taken in 2008 -- either on Mother's Day or Easter.  (I can't remember!)  You can see here how Beautiful she is!  I believe her beauty has only grown as she has gotten older, which is because the true source of her beauty is her love for the Lord, which radiates out to all who meet her!

My dear mom is the epitome of the excellent wife described in Proverbs 31!  She is:
  • Virtuous  (Pr. 31:10)
  • A faithful wife (Pr. 31:11-12)
  • Skilled in handiwork  (Pr. 31:13)
  • Resourceful and Frugal  (Pr 31:14)
  • Hard-working (to a fault!) (Pr. 31:13,15, 27)
  • Self-sacrificing (to a fault!)  (Pr 31:15)
  • Spiritually strong (Pr 31:17)
  • Gives to the needs of others (Pr 31:20)
  • Generous (Pr 31:20)
  • An excellent seamstress (Pr 31:21-22)
  • Honorable (Pr 31:25)
  • A wise counselor (Pr 31:26)
  • An outstanding Bible teacher (Pr 31:26)
  • A very capable homemaker (Pr 31:27)
  • Diligent (Pr 31:27)
  • God-fearing  (Pr 31:30-31)
  • A true prayer-warrior (Pr 31:30-31)
  • Loving and nurturing
  • An excellent example of a godly woman!

"Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her.  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them All.  Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."  ~  Proverbs 31:28-31

I agree Elizabeth, your mom is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm glad you will be able to come spend your special day with her, honoring her too.

My mother, as you know, is also the epitome of Proverbs 31 to us. She is always willing to go out of her way to help any of us or anyone for that matter.

She is loving, caring, generous & beautiful!!! She gave us something to strive for in a wife & mother. She loves & adores all 22 of her grandchildren equally. She is a blessing to us & we could NEVER do enough to show her what a treasure she really is.

Dear Elizabeth, Your mom is certainly all of that. She is an incredible woman, loving to hurting woman, a tremedous bible teacher. She always has time for others that need godly consultation. She is also a faithful prayer warrior too.
I know that I know that because I am blessed to have her friendship.
Have a wonderful Mothers day with her!

I had the wonderful opportunity to be "mothered" by my "Aunt Pat" while I was in college. She is everything Elizabeth has said and more. It was a great time to watch and learn as Elizabeth and Rebecca were both young mothers. I appreciate them letting me into their lives during that time. Many of the things that they did with their children, I have utilized with my family. Elizabeth and Rebecca have faithfully carried on their mother's heritage of reaching and teaching other women. May the Lord continue to bless this Godly line of women!
