All in a Day: Summer Vacations with Kids

Today the All in a Day bloggers are sharing about summer vacations with kids.

Well, ladies, it's like this -- I don't need to pack up and go to the beach for a vacation this summer -- because I live there!!!!!   :D

Which is a good thing, because do you want to know what I dislike more than anything?
  • packing up a large family for a trip
  • unpacking from a trip and having mounds of dirty laundry to tackle
  • l-o-n-g trips in the van
Yes, I'm really pretty much a Homebody!  :)  However, my husband loves to travel!   So, I give him all the credit for the fact that we have taken some fun trips through the years to places like:  Washington, DC; Stone Mountain, GA; Cades Cove and Townsend, TN; Chatanooga, TN; Jekyll Island, GA; St. Simons, GA; Hilton Head Island, SC; Panama City, FL; Cape Canaveral, FL; Orlando, FL; etc.  We even took a trip to San Francisco and back!!!

But this summer?  I think we'll just stay home and enjoy the beach in our own "backyard!"

Here is the list of blogs currently participating in the All in a Day series:

I so miss living at the beach!
Of course, I don't miss the humidity, fire ants, or hurricanes!

I think you need to work on conquering those things you don't particularly traveling! You need to visit your sister more!! (It isn't my fault we have been "displaced"!)

The beach looks wonderful!!
I just pulled Miss Mary's cream chese pound cake out of the oven. Smells great. I am taking it up north tomorrow for Father's Day.
I hope you have a great Father's Day weekend.

Hi again Elizabeth-
When you serve the poundcake what do you serve with it? Fruit etc..? Just looking for ideas. :)
We just say Meme like you were saying me twice.
Thanks again for all the great ideas!!

Hi Meme! I am pronouncing Mimi that way -- like me me! So, when you say it, do both words sound the same?? Or do you use a short i sound for Mimi??? ;)

We eat the pound cake many ways -- like warm from the oven or cold from the fridge, plain on a plate, or in a bowl with milk on top (my husband's favorite way!). It is simply heavenly served with sliced strawberries and maybe even a dollop of whipped cream!

Here is an idea to make a really elegant loooking dessert. Place your slice (or slab!) of pound cake on your dessert plate and drizzle chocolate syrup in a pretty swirl over the pound cake and onto the plate. Then put a scoop of fresh sliced strawberries on the pound cake and top with whipped cream. This is very simple, delicious and pretty!!! We have served it this way often for Father's Day, etc. ENJOY! :)

I'm thinking that "Meme" is what you say when someone says, "Who wants the last piece of pound cake?" LOL!!

Yes, both Mimi's sound the same. It is a long, old sister story :)
Thx for the ideas. The drizzle of chocolate sounds great.
Everyone really enjoyed it yesterday. Hope you had a wonderful day as well.

It's so neat to know that you all are enjoying the beach. So many people live near the beach and don't even visit!! God has been so good to put you in pretty towns and cities ... near beach and mountain ... so FUN!

That is what I'm determined NOT to let happen! I really want to take advantage of the beach, because I don't know where we may live in the future. I would hate to have lived here and been too busy to enjoy it, ya know?? You set a great example of someone who takes time to enjoy God's creation!
