The Taste of Autumn

Fall is my favorite season for many reasons.  For one thing, I love the flavors and aromas of fall, and I enjoy preparing soups and stews that simmer on the stove throughout the day.  The cooler autumn days and the tantalizing tastes and smells of fall foods lure me into the kitchen, where I enjoy creating homey meals, like this savory dish which I prepared for supper tonight.  Nothing says, "Autumn" like this yummy combination!!!

Autumn Harvest Skillet Supper

2 cups homemade chicken broth
6  medium sweet potatoes, peeled, quartered, and cut in 1-inch chunks
1 large onion, coarsely chopped
1 head cabbage, coarsely chopped
1 pound smoked turkey sausage, cut diagonally in 1/2-inch slices
3 large golden delicious apples, quartered, cored, and cut in 1-inch pieces

Bring chicken broth to a boil.  Add sweet potatoes and onion; reduce heat to medium and cook 5 minutes.  Add cabbage and sausage; cook 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender and cabbage is crisp-tender. Add apple; cover and simmer about 5 minutes more.

Serve over brown rice, if desired.

I first made this recipe when my family looked about like this, so it has stood the test of time!  :)

Fall is also the season for making the best desserts!  There is nothing more tantalizing than the taste and smell of a delicious autumn dessert, such as Apple or Pumpkin Pie, Apple Crunch, Apple Chip Cake or Pumpkin Pound Cake!  YUM!

What are your favorite fall foods/recipes??
