31 Days of Pumpkin: Day 17

Yes They're All Ours:31 Days

As you've probably noticed, many pumpkin recipes call for Pumpkin Pie Spice.  While you can purchase this spice mix at many grocery stores, you can also make your own from spices you probably have on hand.  When I depleted my supply, I kept my empty spice containers and refilled them with my own pumpkin pie spice blend.

A google search revealed several different but similar recipes that used the same spices, but in varying amounts.  This is what I settled on:

Pumpkin Pie Spice

  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container.

Obviously, you can double, triple, or even quadruple this recipe and store it in a spice bottle or glass jar with your other spices.  You can use pumpkin pie spice in place of the individual spices in any pumpkin recipe with satisfactory results.

ooo! Thanks! I have been wondering about that after I saw a small container for over $3. I think I'll make my own, thank you very much!

I think you took the easy (or maybe cheap?) way out today! :)

That is useful information! Thanks.
