Senior Night

I'm taking a break from my series on Setting and Accomplishing Goals to share about some family fun and memorable moments!

Saturday was Senior Night for the basketball players at Joe's school.  (He transferred to a Christian school in 9th grade, after being homeschooled up to that point.)  It's hard to believe he's a senior!!  Joe was honored along with three senior girls:

Here are a few pictures of Joe that were taken by a student photographer and used in the Senior Presentation.  I really like these photos of my boy, especially this first one!  Isn't it awesome??  ;)

The boys' team is young and has had a challenging season, plagued with injuries. At times, they've only had five available players!! (The guys on the bench all had casts, splints and crutches!) That means those five guys had to play the entire game, without a rest, and guard against foul trouble, or they were down to four on the court!!  Saturday's game was a real heart breaker when they played hard and well, and then lost by 1 point.  :(

I took the following picture of Joe Saturday night during warm ups.  While it is not the quality of the ones above, I still think it's a pretty cool pic!  Don't you?

I guess you can tell I'm pretty proud of Joe!  :)  And no, it's not because he is a great athlete and star basketball player.  It's because he's a team player, quick to pass off the ball so others can score.  It's also because he's humble, patient, caring and compassionate, hard-working, determined, loyal, dedicated, and a great leader.  It all comes down to character.  That's what really molds a boy into a man.

Well, I am just going to post this as "anonymous" since last time it marked me as spam! lol Loved the pictures of Joe, mom, and LOVED your last paragraph! I cannot thank you enough for raising such a humble, loving, trustworthy, God-fearing, and altruistic man. I have met many guys over my lifetime, and Joe is just in a whole different category. Please continue and do not lost heart in your challenge to raise God-fearing young men who want to guard their hearts against sin in this dark world and to stand up for what is right even if they are alone. Godly young women are waiting for them! :)

Love always,
~Abby

Thank you Abby for such a sweet comment! I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when I read it! Thanks for the encouragement! It is not easy in this day and age to raise a son with good character who desires to please God and his parents. I am so blessed to have more than one son like that!

and I *loved* your last sentence - "godly young women are waiting for them!" :)

It is very difficult to raise Fine Young Men! And your sons are great examples of fine young men! And when a young lady compliments a mom on her great guys then that lady receives many points from that mom!!LOL!! congrats to Joe for his honors at senior night.

Someone captured some great pics of Joe! :)
I can't believe he is graduating this year! It is amazing to me how fast time is passing!
I find it amazing how you can blog about your family and still manage to convict my heart! As I read about all of Joe's fantastic qualities, my heart is pricked about the character qualities (or lack thereof) in my own children. I need to pray more and strive harder to stress the importance of good, Godly character...in my own life, and that of my children! Thanks for being the encouraging, wise, and older sister that you are! :)

Thanks Becca for your encouraging words!

Please don't feel like we are perfect over here . . . Amber has been given a front row seat to observe our deficiencies. Fortunately, we are all a work in progress!!!
