Several years ago, our daughter, Ashlyn used to enjoy making brownies and cookies to encourage and bless people that were an important part of her life. (Actually, she still does this!) I'm sure she got this idea from my mom, who has done the same thing for as long as I can remember!
She had a specific brownie recipe, which we renamed, "Ashlyn's Brownies of Blessing," because she used to bless so many people with this fabulous recipe! Our pastor at that time often commented on what a blessing Ashlyn's brownies were . . . especially when combined with an ice cold glass of milk!! ;)
I made these brownies today to bless my hard-working husband! I took a picture with my phone -- which doesn't do the best job, but it's all I have:
Everyone commented on how delicious these brownies were! So, I thought I'd share the recipe for Ashlyn's Brownies of Blessing:
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate squares
2/3 cup butter (1 stick plus slightly less than 3 TBSP)
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 9x13 baking pan with Pam or other cooking spray.
Melt chocolate squares and butter together in saucepan over low heat (or carefully in the microwave). Remove from heat. Let cool slightly.
Cream together sugar, butter and chocolate mixture, eggs and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread evenly in pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until brownies start to pull away from sides of the pan. Do not overbake or brownies will be dry. Cool slightly before cutting and sharing!
Our family love to make up silly songs, and while making these brownies, we used to sing "Brownies of Blessing," which is sung to the tune of "Showers of Blessing!"
Brownies of Blessing,
Brownies of Blessing we need.
Chocolate chips 'round us are falling,
But for the brownies we plead. :)
If you make these brownies, please let me know how you like them and whether or not you bless someone else with some of these delicious Brownies of Blessing. :)
