Have You Bowed the Knee?

I know everyone is getting tired of hearing about the election, but I feel led to share one more post about it, before moving on to other things. Like many of you, I've been having a hard time accepting the outcome.  I admit that I have wrestled with God, not wanting to accept His will in this matter. The reason why?  I prefer peace and prosperity, comfort and ease to hardship, suffering and persecution.  However, we as individuals and the church as a whole are purified and strengthened through suffering and persecution.  It is a necessary part of our sanctification.

I've been thinking a lot about the email that my mom sent me very early Wednesday morning. If you've been following my Marriage Monday series lately, you know that she is a very wise woman.  Her godly perspective and wisdom are evident in her reflections on the outcome of this election, which she has given me permission to share here.  I trust that you will be blessed as you read what the Lord laid on her heart.

I awoke early with this thought running through my mind: "BOW THE KNEE!"  We know that God is sovereign as the sovereign Ruler of heaven and earth. He puts on the throne whomever He wills. For whatever reason, He has put Obama on the throne--even if the election was perverted by many underhanded and deceptive means (such as in Ohio where Obama ruled that our military men and women could NOT vote by absentee ballot!), still God ruled and reigned. Man can do nothing that God doesn't allow!!
The book of Habakkuk has been running through my mind and so I picked up my Bible and once again read through those short but powerful chapters.
Habakkuk cried out to the LORD about the evil in his day and asked the LORD why He wasn't doing something about it. God replied that He was doing something. His "something" was not the "something" that Habakkuk wanted to happen. Rather, God showed him that He was going to use an evil and wicked nation (the Babylonians) to bring destruction upon Judah.

This was a fearful sight that the LORD showed Habakkuk and he didn't understand or like what God was going to do, so he quarreled against it.  But, in chapter 3, as he began to rehearse God's mighty works and ways of the past, focusing his mind on who and what His God was, his focus changed, he went from fear to faith.
Thus we read in Habakkuk 3:16-19 his triumphant words of overcoming, victorious faith that overcame his fear.
"When I heard my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice; rotteness entered into my bones; and I trembled in myself; that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops. Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines, the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls; YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I WILL JOY IN THE GOD OF MY SALVATION. THE LORD GOD IS MY STRENGTH AND HE WILL MAKE MY FEET LIKE HINDS FEET AND HE WILL MAKE ME TO WALK UPON MINE HIGH PLACES."
Just like Habakkuk, my heart trembled in fear at the thought of Obama's rule for another four years. I felt so hopeless and fearful at the very thought of the evil he could and most likely will continue to do as he has in the past four years. But God had to show me that my trust was not in the ALMIGHTY, ALL-KNOWING, SOVEREIGN GOD but rather in a puny man--named Romney. Cursed is the man who makes the arms of flesh his trust. But Blessed is the man whose trust is in the LORD!
So --  I have chosen to bow the knee in submission to the will of my sovereign, all-knowing, all-seeing, all-loving, all-powerful, ever-present  God and trust Him rather than man. God's will is perfect! He makes no mistakes. He is working out His perfect plan of the ages. We are here at this time in history because He ordained it so for His purposes and plans.
Therefore I bow the knee unto my God, trusting Him even though I don't like what I see happening, it is fearful to behold, destruction and suffering loom on the horizon as evil runs roughshod over righteousness. Yet our God makes no mistakes. Evil can NOT prevail a moment longer than our God permits! So, join me in bowing the knee!!
