Welcoming a New Neighbor . . .

Been watching a "new neighbor" move in down the street . . .

I must confess that I'm very curious about his eating and sleeping habits!

He's the type of neighbor that demands a little respect . . . .

I hope he doesn't mind me spying on him every time I drive by!  :)

Giveaway Extravaganza #10 - Starbucks Gift Card

I've been trying to decorate for Fall.  I love fall (bet you're surprised?)  ;) so naturally I love fall decor!  Yet, I just haven't been able to find the time to make the transition.  Finally, I just decided to tackle one area and start taking down all my beachy stuff - lighthouses, sand dollars, sea shells, etc. and start replacing with my beautiful fall decor!

Sometimes getting started is the hardest part, but once we get started, we are motivated to keep going, and find little snatches of time to complete the job.  I'm still working . . . but here is a sneak peek into my foyer -- what you see when you open my front door!

Hopefully, I'll share a few more glimpses of fall with you in the days ahead, as I decorate little areas of my home with autumn touches.

For now, it is time to announce my final giveaway of my September Giveaway Extravaganza, so you will have time to enter it before I start announcing winners later this week!

First of all, a pretty fallish-looking Starbucks card worth $5. If you win, you can treat yourself to a pumpkin spice latte!  :)  Or have a simple coffee date with your hubby!  :)

And, you know how much I love to cook, especially my favorite fall foods!  But I've learned that my time in the kitchen often produces something far more important and lasting than the next meal -- as this little sign I discovered at Cracker Barrel depicts  -- "The best things made in the kitchen are memories!"

If you'd like to win this prize package, which includes Starbucks gift card and plaque, just leave me a comment!  :)

Also, there is still time to enter my other giveaways, but time is quickly running out!!!  Just click on the links below and follow the instructions for entering.  Most giveaways end on September 27th or 28th!

What's Cooking? Raw Apple Muffins

A really sweet blogging friend brought me back a big bag of Golden Delicious apples from the north Georgia mountains last week!  :)  I used my golden treasure to make this Caramel Apple Coffee Cake, our family favorite Apple Crunch, and these yummy Raw Apple Muffins.

Raw Apple Muffins

4 cups peeled and diced apples
1 cup raw sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.  Spray 2 muffin pans with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, mix the apples, sugar, eggs, coconut oil and vanilla.
  • In smaller bowl, mix flour, soda, cinnamon and salt.
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.  Stir by hand (or mix on low) until mixed well, scraping bowl as needed.
  • Add chopped nuts and mix together.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes. Remove muffins to cooling rack.
  • yield: about 2 dozen

What are your favorite apple recipes?

Giveaway Extravaganza #9 - A Gift from My Bookshelves

I'm starting to run out of creative ideas for my Giveaway Extravaganza!  I'm also running out of time!  My goal is to post ten giveaways before my Big Day, which is swiftly approaching!

Today for Giveaway #9 I'm giving away a book from my bookshelves!  :)

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me which one of these books you would like to win!  Each one of these is new or in like new condition.

From the back covers:

God Doesn't Believe in Atheists - by Ray Comfort

"Contrary to popular opinion, the existence of God can be proven - absolutely, scientifically, without reference to faith or even the Bible. It is also possible to prove that the Bible is supernatural in origin.  This book will do just that. It will also show the atheist that he doesn't exist, reveal the true motives of the agnostics, and strengthen the faith of the believer."

Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends - by Sarah, Stephen and Grace Mally

"Brothers and sisters are among the most important people in life, yet often they are also the most trouble.  My brother, sister and I have become concerned as we have observed the way many siblings fight, argue, and miss out on the close relationship that God intends for them to have.  The problem is not just the surface battles, but the underlying attitudes, wrong concepts, and offenses. Many broken relationships never get fixed.  Few enjoy the special life-long treasure that God intended.  Our emphasis in this book is not merely 'getting along' with your brothers and sisters, but making them your best friends. Since every chapter of the book has a section written by each of us, the book has three perspectives and three personalities. It includes many personal stories and insights about how we have learned to become best friends."

Bringing Them Home - by Elizabeth Wiens

"One quiet afternoon Cassy Knight, a mother of four, is shocked to get a phone call from school. Her eight-year-old son, Jeremy, is accused of starting a fight -- and even has a nice-sized shiner to vouch for it. He says he was tired of being called "stupid" over and over by the school bully.  Jeremy turns to stare out the window, but Cassy sees a tear spill over and make a trail down his cheek. The next afternoon, nine-year-old Nicole bursts into tears because a teacher laughed at her for believing the story of creation in the Bible. Cassy and her husband, David, grew up in the public school. It's the only way of education that they know. but now they wonder, is public school really the place where our children should be? That simple question will lead them on a delightful, surprising, and unforgettable journey of discovery."

Which one will you choose??

Marriage Monday: Living with an Unsaved Man - Acceptance {Link up|

Marriage Mondays"

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  Last Monday I shared the Introduction to a new series on living with an unsaved mate, written by my own precious mother, who lived with an unsaved man (my dear father) for nearly twenty years, before God brought him to Himself!

Today, I am sharing her first tip on how to successfully live with an unsaved mate.

May 11, 2012

Today let me begin with what for me was the foundation of what God would do in the years to come.

“for better or for worse, till death do us part.”

“NO!! NO!!! NO!!!" screamed my heart and my mind as my husband of two years told me he was not saved. This could not be happening!!!  My world was rocked and turned upside down as my husband told me that he had thought being a Christian was being a morally good person, going to church, doing to others as he wanted them to do to him, etc. But now that he understood what being a Christian really entailed, he realized he was not saved, and wasn’t ready to be!

Oh yes, he believed that he was a sinner and that Jesus Christ had died for him! He even believed that the Bible was the Word of God and totally true—every word of it. But it was all an intellectual belief for him, not a matter of the heart. (Even the demons believe that . . . and tremble!)

This seemed to me like some kind of a cruel joke. How could this be happening? I didn’t want to be married to a non-Christian. I had determined that I would never date or marry an unbeliever. I had seen what a home divided was like. My mother was a Christian, but my dad was not. At that time, I didn't know what God’s Word says on the matter:

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers…” 2 Corinthians 6:14a.

But, I did know that I did not want to be married to an unbeliever!!! But the reality was this: I was whether I wanted to be or not!!!  Now I needed to accept that fact and choose to keep my covenant vow I made to God on our wedding day  --  “for better or for worse, till death do us part!”

Not only did I have to accept the reality of my love’s spiritual condition, but just as God accepted me “just as I am”; likewise, I had to accept my mate as a person, spiritual condition included, just as he was, while at the same time trusting God to make him into the man HE wanted him to be for His glory—not for my good pleasure.  Sad to say I was slow in learning this!

*I'm so grateful that my Mom was willing to share her experience and wisdom with us!  Come back next week for the continuation of this series!  I know you will be blessed!!*

Your Turn to Share:

Do you live with an unsaved man?  Or do you have a testimony of your husband coming to the Lord after much prayer and patiently living out Christ before him?  If you have a testimony that will encourage other women in a similar situation, please share!

TGIF: Watching Sue Thomas F.B.Eye {Link up}

Welcome to my link up -- Thank God It's {Family Fun} Friday !!

I want to encourage you to create memories, build family traditions, and have fun with your family!  Because children grow up faster than you think possible . . .

Many families look forward to having a Family Fun Night on Fridays.  Is this something your family does?  Tell us about it!  What are your favorite Friday night activities?  How does your family have fun and create memories together?  Please share!

Sue Thomas F.B.Eye

Recently, my family and I have been excitedly watching some old episodes of the TV show Sue Thomas F.B.Eye.  This series was originally aired on Pax from 2002 to 2005, and my second oldest daughter, Ashlyn, was one of the show's biggest fans during that time!  Inspired by Deanne Bray, the deaf actress who plays the part of Sue Thomas, Ashlyn studied American Sign Language (ASL) on her own and then took some college-level ASL classes to increase her understanding and ability to communicate with the deaf.

Recently, we resurrected our love for Sue Thomas F.B.Eye and have been watching our collection of old episodes.  Loosely based on the real life story of Sue Thomas, a deaf woman whose ability to read lips landed her a job with an elite surveillance team at the FBI, this series features action, suspense, a little romance, humor, and clever dialogue!  It also helps the viewer identify with the plight of those who are hearing-impaired, and shows how deaf people can be helped to live a normal life by owning a service dog.  (Levi, Sue's hearing dog, is definitely one of the stars of the show!)

This series is fabulous, family-friendly entertainment! My only caveat is that some episodes may be too intense for young children, so you will need to use discernment as to what your children can handle.

You can order the Sue Thomas F.B.Eye series on DVD here, in addition to the book that inspired the series, Silent Night.  Your purchase will help support the real Sue Thomas, who now struggles with M.S. in addition to her deafness.

Friday nights are perfect for a Sue Thomas Marathon!!!  :)

Giveaway Extravaganza #4 - Doily and Life-changing Testimony

"Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates." ~ Proverbs 31:31

See the beautiful doily above??  This doily was crocheted by my precious mother especially for me to give away to one of you for my September Giveaway Extrvaganza!  She chose the pineapple motif, because the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality!

Through the years my mother would often sit with my father to watch football games, golf, and other things on TV that she had little to no interest in, just to spend time with him.  She was not one to ever be idle, so her hands would be flying and her knitting needles clicking, as she worked on her latest hand project -- usually knitting or crocheting a baby gift for someone. At least, that is what I remember her working on the most!  She was also an excellent seamstress, who made the majority of our clothes, so she wisely ordered her work and saved her hand-sewing to do in the evenings as she sat in the family room beside my Dad.  Numerous dainty doilies have emerged from her flying fingers over the years!  She even made me a gorgeous crocheted table cloth that took her hundreds and hundreds of hours to complete!!

"She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands."  ~ Proverbs 31:13

My Mom is a beautiful illustration of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31!  Every one of the verses could be applied to her life! However, most importantly, she learned the secret of the Proverbs 31 woman, which is found in verse 30 ~ "Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."

My Mom developed a sweet dependence on the Lord by learning to trust Him with a lifetime of suffering.  Her mantra is "Jesus is the blessed controller of all things!"  (1 Timothy 6:15, Phillips translation) She knows that nothing takes Him by surprise, and everything that happens to her is filtered through his fingers of love!  And that is why she has been able to forgive her offenders, love her enemies, rejoice in Him even though her body is ravaged by disease, and trust Him no matter what twists and turns her life takes.

In addition to the beautiful, heirloom quality doily above, I am giving away a CD of my Mom's powerful testimony.  If you or someone you know has staggered under the weight of guilt and despair that comes from enduring abuse, lifelong debilitating illness, a rocky marriage, a severely sick child, progressive hearing loss, and so much more -- you will want to enter to win this copy of her amazing testimony!  It is truly life-changing!

To enter, just leave me a comment telling me why you would like to win this giveaway.  I'm praying God directs me as I choose a winner.  (The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the LORD. ~ Proverbs 16:33)

Marriage Monday: Living with an Unsaved Husband {Link up}

Marriage Mondays"

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  Last week, I shared a powerful post from Jolene Engle of An Alabaster Jar on What to do if you've lost respect for your husband.  I hope you took the time to read that article!  If not, I encourage you to make time to read it today.  It is a fabulous post!

One huge issue that causes wives to lose respect for their husbands is when the husbands aren't Christians, aren't living for the Lord, or just aren't "as spiritual as their wives."  (Beware! Such situations can become a trap for the wife, ensnaring her in a nasty net of self-righteous pride that is very repelling to her husband and to God!)

Many women face daily struggles and heartache from going through life unequally yoked with an unsaved mate.  If you are single, my best advice to you is to never even consider entering into a relationship with a man that is not living for the Lord!  If you are married, the only advice I can give you is from 1 Peter 3:1-4 -- to live in such a way that your godly lifestyle (and not your words) will attract your husband to the gospel!  (Easier said than done, I realize!)

Today, I want to kick off a series of posts on living with an unsaved man written by a godly older woman who did so for many, many years.  That precious woman is one that I know well and admire greatly.  She is my own dear mother.

May 11, 2012

She is not a stranger to this blog, as she has written guest posts for me in the past.  Some of you may have been reading here back in 2009 when she wrote What is in Your Cup?  (Then I followed that with My Cup Runneth Over!)

Here is her introduction to this series:

Some days ago I was asked to write about LIVING WITH AN UNSAVED MATE from an older woman’s perspective. It was with great reluctance that I accepted the challenge.  First of all, I most certainly do not consider myself an authority on the subject. Secondly, I remember the many times and ways in which I failed to respond in a Christ-like way.  Furthermore, I know that every situation is different and that what I share will be from my own unique and personal perspective and experiences, except when otherwise noted, while knowing that yours will have its own unique ups and downs and twists and turns. Therefore, I don’t want to give the impression that my way is the only way----except where Biblical Truth is shared, and in that case, it is true for every wife’s situation.

One example of a universal Biblical Truth is the fact that God is responsible for salvation. He is the Author of salvation, not man, and the timing and ways are in His hands, not man’s.  See Paul’s testimony: “In the timing that pleased God, He saved him”. However, we do have some God-given responsibilities -- namely prayer and Christlike living!

If you are in a marriage with an unsaved husband, let me encourage you to take hope, take courage, and be strengthened in your faith. Get your eyes off your circumstances and onto the mighty and awesome power of God!! Look for what God can do—in His timing—not at things as they may be at the present time! Our God is a gracious and loving Savior. Plead for your husband before the throne of Grace! God hears your cries! Trust God for His perfect plan and His perfect timing! He makes no mistakes and His hand is not short that it cannot save! Sincerely desire your husband’s salvation for his eternal benefit and God’s glory, not for your ease and satisfaction.

If you are in a marriage with an unsaved husband, whether like mine, where it came as a shock; Or if you got saved after marriage and your husband did not; Or even if you walked against the clear commands of Scripture to not be unequally yoked together with an unbeliever -- none of these situations caught God unawares!! God is still in control. He still rules and reigns from heaven above. Nothing happens without His knowledge and His control!  He has a plan and purpose for your life, and, believe it or not, God has a ministry for you!

Your ministry is your marriage relationship and the way you live Jesus Christ before the eyes of your unsaved mate. It is a ministry that is to take precedence over all others!

Marriage is a legal and binding covenant relationship with God that takes precedence over all other relationships! It is a covenant that only death can sever!!  Please never lose sight of that fact!! This is a truth which will help you keep your focus on the bad days! Be faithful in this ministry. The rewards are great, they are eternal, not only for you and your mate, but also for your children and all the others, who, though you are unaware, are watching.

On days when I struggled with the incredible ministry God had given me, I, like David encouraged my heart with God’s Word. Two verses from 1 Corinthians chapter 7 were some that God used to help me stay the course with a right focus and goal before my eyes.
1 Cor 7:13-14 And the woman who hath a husband who believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband. Else your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.

As Christians we are the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. We are the salt of the earth. The influence of our lives is to permeate our culture and stop the spread of corruption, seasoning it with Christ-like flavor. It is to make others thirsty for our God. Our good works are to cause others to glorify our Lord!  Salt and light are not something we are to be striving to be. It is what God says we now ARE as a result of Jesus the Light of the World living within us! It is what Jesus Christ made us when He saved us, giving us a new heart and putting His Spirit within. Our lives must reflect the life of Jesus Christ, not just outside our homes where it will be seen by others, but equally important, within our homes, by our attitudes and actions towards our mate and our children.  Therefore we are to quit acting on the outside in a way that does not represent what we truly Are on the inside! In a home divided that is easier said than done. But do it we must, if we want others, and specifically our unsaved mates to thirst for our God.

*This is just the introduction!  Come back next week for more!  I know you will be blessed!!*

Your Turn to Share:
