Marriage Monday: Loving Your Husband {Link up}

Marriage Mondays

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  Once again, I'm shocked that it can possibly be Monday again already!  In fact, I'm so unprepared for a new week that I don't have even the beginnings of a Marriage Monday post written.  In fact, I don't even have a spark in my mind, that just needs fanned into a flame!

So, I've decided to draw your attention to this fantastic post from Time Warp Wife on 30 Ways to Love Your Husband.  This was posted on Friday, and it has been on my mind every since.

While everyone loves to hear those three little words, "I love you," it is even more powerful to have that love communicated through actions!

Our loving Heavenly Father set that example -- not just communicating His love in Word, but in deed:

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  ~ John 3:16

How do you communicate love to your husband?

Your Turn to Share:

How do you tell you husband that you love him without saying a word?  How does your husband communicate his love to you?  Please share!!!

If you were blessed or encouraged by this post, please consider sharing it with your friends on Facebook or other social media sites.  Thank you!

What's Cooking? Looney Meatball Soup

As promised, here is the recipe for the awesome soup that uses those meatballs I shared last week!

Looney Meatball Soup

2 carrots, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 zucchini, chopped
2 cups V-8 juice
4 cups beef broth
1/2 cup small pasta (we like the extra small shells)

1. Saute the vegetables for 5 minutes in olive oil in your soup pot.
2. Add the V-8 juice and beef broth and bring to a boil.
3. Let soup simmer on low until about an hour before you want to eat.  Then add meatballs.  (You may want to add them a bit sooner if they are frozen.)
4. When meatballs are heated through, turn up heat a bit and add pasta.  Cook until pasta is tender and serve.  (Small pasta gets done quickly!)
5. Serve with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and a loaf of Italian bread!  :)

Note:  This serves about 6 to 8 as written.  I double for my family and have some leftover for lunch the next day!  :)

ENJOY!

Marriage Monday: Thank God for Your Husband {Link up}

Marriage Mondays

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  Can you believe it is Monday again already??

I don't know about you, but I really don't know what happened to the summer or the fall! They both evaporated right before my eyes  . . . and here it is almost Thanksgiving!!!

As we all turn our attention this week to counting our blessings and being thankful for all that we have and all that God has done for us, I wonder --- How long has it been since you've thanked God for your husband?

Perhaps you're thinking:

  • How can I thank God for my husband when he isn't a believer, I disagree with his worldly lifestyle, and he makes my life miserable?
  • Or, how can I thank God for my husband when he is harsh with the children, distant from me, and I often cry myself to sleep at night from loneliness?
  • Or, how can I thank God for my husband when he has made poor business decisions and we are really suffering financially?
  • Or, how can I thank God for my husband when he refuses to take any spiritual leadership in our family and spends hours sitting in front of the TV?

These are just a few examples that popped into my head, but there are many, many more scenarios of why you might not be feeling very thankful for your husband at this point in your life. You may even be envious of your friends who seem to have loving, tender, involved, spiritually-minded husbands.

Here is the answer from God's Word for situations just like the ones mentioned above:

  • Ephesians 5:20 - giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Philippians 4:6 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
  • Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 - in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
  • Hebrews 13:15 - Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of [our] lips, giving thanks to His name.
  • Psalm 116:17 - I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the LORD.

Have you ever wondered what those verses mean that talk about offering the sacrifice of thanksgiving or the sacrifice of praise?  They refer to praising and thanking God for a person, a circumstance, or a situation even when you don't feel like it!!!

It is a sacrifice to praise God when we we feel like giving up and drowning in despair!  It is a sacrifice to thank God when we don't see any possible good in a situation!!!  It is then that we offer our praise and our thanksgiving by faith, trusting that God can redeem even the worst of situations and bring some good out of them!!

So, even if your marriage seems hopeless, your husband cold and distant, your relationship strained -- thank God for all of it!  Thank Him!  Praise Him!  Trust Him!  He may or may not change the circumstances -- but He will change You!!

Your Turn to Share:

Do you have a testimony of giving thanks to God in a difficult situation or for a difficult man?  If you have a testimony that will encourage other women in a difficult marriage, please share!

What's Cooking? Looney Meatballs

Today I'm going to share the first part of a two-part recipe.  These lovely little treasures are known as "Looney Meatballs."  (Looney being the last name of the family where this recipe originated, but the recipe was passed onto me some years ago by my friend, Heidi.)  They are the star of the show in "Looney Meatball Soup." (Check back next week for the soup recipe.)  But, they can also be used in Spaghetti Sauce or even eaten as is!  These meatballs are melt-in-your-mouth delicious!  :)

Looney Meatballs

1 pound ground beef
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp dried basil or Italian seasoning
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup bread crumbs (plain or Italian)
2 eggs
1-2 TBSP water
1 clove minced garlic
1 TBSP minced dried onion flakes (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2. Mix ingredients together in large bowl with hands, adding water as needed to get the right texture.  (I like to use my Kitchen Aid mixer on low!)
3. Form into 1-inch balls.  Place close together, but not touching, on cookie sheet with sides.  I spray my cookie sheet with Pam.
4. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until browned but still tender.  (The best way to test for doneness is to sample one!)

Tips:
* Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe and freeze.  Store in ziplock bags in the freezer and then you can pull out however many you need when you make the soup or spaghetti sauce.
* Use an extra-small cookie scoop to help you make uniformly sized meatballs.
* Assign meatball making to a willing (or even not-so-willing) helper!  My 14 year-old-son Luke made all of the meatballs in the picture above!  :)

Here is a picture of these delicious meatballs right after they came out of the oven!  I wish you could taste one -- they are so yummy!  :)

Marriage Monday: Recipe for a Happy Marriage {Link up}

Marriage Mondays"

Welcome back to Marriage Monday! I apologize for being so late getting this post up!  I hope the old adage "Better late than never" still applies!  :)

I had a very busy weekend and I'm entering into an unusually busy week, and I just couldn't keep all the plates spinning . . .

So, here is Tuesday's version of Marriage Monday!!  ;)

A few weeks ago, while in South Carolina helping my parents, I sat down with my Mom's Recipe book and started copying some of her recipes that I didn't already have.  While doing this, an interesting detail caught my eye.  Many of her recipes had notes in parentheses or in the margins saying things like, "Dave prefers less sour cream."  "Dave much prefers noodles to rice."  "This wasn't Dave's favorite."

These little notes stood out to me, because they clearly illustrated how my Mom had adapted her cooking through the years to please her husband.  It also convicted me of how many times I expect my husband to eat food the way I like it prepared, instead of going out of my way to prepare food to his liking.  Ouch!

My Mom applied the truths of Ephesians 5:22 in her marriage, from the big decisions of life right down to the dinner table.

"Wives, be subject (be submissive and adapt yourselves) to your own husbands as a service to the Lord."  (Amplified version)

I think this may illustrate why my parents recently celebrated 52 years of marriage and why my Dad came to truly know the Lord after rejecting Him for so many years.

"In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands (subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on them, and adapt yourselves to them) so that even if any do not obey the Word (of God), they may be won over not by discussion but by the (godly) lives of their wives." ~ 1 Peter 3:1 (Amplified version)

Most modern women reject these biblical truths as "old-fashioned," "out-dated," "oppressive to women," and "utterly ridiculous."  Yet, I don't see many of the women who angrily and boldly express these views in happy marriages.  Yes, there are some exceptions.  But God's ways work!  His Word is Timeless and True in every generation!

I observe many young women entering into marriage with the thought that "he will make me happy."  Such a marriage will be rocky from the start!  In reality, marriage involves dying to self and living to make the other person happy.  That is the secret ingredient in the recipe for a long lasting, satisfying marriage.

My precious parents, May 2010

How have you learned to adapt to your husband?  Do you agree that dying to self and learning to make your mate happy is the secret ingredient in a successful marriage?  Please share!
