Welcome back to my weekly series, From my Front Porch, where I share updates from my home and family. My hope is that you'll fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea, or perhaps even a glass of lemonade, and imagine us sitting together on my front porch, chatting about life and catching up on the latest news! I hope you'll join me each Friday on My Front Porch!
Around the House
We've been slowly making our way through my new house. I hope you're enjoying the tour! We visited the master bedroom two weeks ago, and then last week I let you take a peek into my master bathroom and closet! :) Today, I want to wander back to my foyer and show you the latest addition to my photo wall, and then we will walk upstairs and start taking a look around up there next week!
Last weekend at the wedding, one of my nephews gave me this beautiful plaque:
I decided to hang it in the foyer, above the doorway to the music room, where I think it ties in perfectly with the existing picture wall that goes up the stairs! I'm so excited about it! :)
You may also remember that I'm in love with Word Art, and I've been hoping to find some great quotes or scripture verses to adorn the walls of my new house. My Aunt Terri flew from New Hampshire to Florida for the wedding, and she had some great Word Art tucked away in her suitcase just for me! Yay! I've already put some up in the kitchen!
Here above the family photo canvas:
And here above the windows in the breakfast area:
What do you think?? Do you like it? I do! :)
We drove home from Florida Sunday afternoon and my sister and her family decided at the last minute (when they got to my exit!) to stop and spend the night at our house. :) We squeezed in a trip to the beach on Monday morning, until a stinging downpour sent us scurrying across the sand like crabs to take cover! While there, the kids enjoyed fishing in the surf with my brother-in-law, and both Tiffany and Amber (my niece) caught small sharks!
Wednesday was Matt's 11th birthday!! He's getting so grown up!
Unbelievably, Matt has lost 5 teeth in the last 4 weeks! During his birthday meal, he hopped up to retrieve the latest tooth from his mouth!
Here is Matt with his favorite fishing buddy, Tyler!
Tyler gave Matt a new fishing pole for his birthday, which made Matt over-the-top happy!!
Thursday was Independence Day and our church's annual 4th of July Picnic. These are the desserts our family entered in the dessert contest:
This red, white and blue pound cake was created by Chris.
And Hannah and Kristi made this luscious fruit torte:
I chose not to enter a dessert this year. Surprisingly, no one from our family won, even though I thought they had stellar entries!
The girls had a blast making patriotic T-shirts to wear to the picnic! It's amazing what you can do with some inexpensive T-shirts and fabric paint from Michael's!
And here are the T-shirt artists modeling their creations - my niece, Amber, my daughter-in-law, Kristi, and my daughters, Tiffany and Hannah! :)
Our church's 4th of July Picnic includes lots of old-fashioned fun, including scavenger hunts, 3-legged races, sack races, watermelon eating contests, and watermelon seed spitting contests! :) I think you'll enjoy some pictures of the fun, most of which were taken by my daughter, Hannah!

Yes, we pretty much had a blast! ;)
Thanks for stopping by my front porch for a visit! If you have time, please drop by and visit with my dear friend, Lori. She blogs from the front porch of her cozy little log cabin nestled in the woods of the South Carolina mountains. You will enjoy her warm and witty writing style! Tell her that Elizabeth sent you! :)
Also, would you mind taking a moment and voting for me? I'd really like to see my blog stay in the Circle of Mom's Top 25 Large Family Blogs for 2013! :) Voting ends July 24th. You can vote again every 24 hours! ;)
THANKS for your support! :)
Please join me again next Friday on my front porch!!
