What Happened 32 Years Ago Today that Changed My Life!

Something happened on this day 32 years ago that changed my life forever.  Want to know what it was??  Well, buckle your seat belt and I'll take you for a ride down memory lane!  :)

Me in 1981 with my 1968 Triumph GT6!

On this day in 1981, I was a sohomore in college and the prowd owner of a cute little sports car!  (See vintage photo above!)  I was excited about going home for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, but when I got in my little car to drive the two hours home, I discovered that I wasn't going any where until I acquired some brake fluid.  :(

I knew several other girls from my hometown, but as I walked up and down the deserted halls of my dorm, it was obvious that all of my friends had already gone home for the weekend.  :(

Where it all happened - Bancroft Hall, built in 1909

As I looked dejectedly out of the open third-floor window on the backside of my dorm, I lamented to a resident of my floor that I couldn't go home for the weekend because my car needed brake fluid, and I didn't have a ride to the auto parts store.  Her father was the basketball coach, and at that moment, she saw the center of the basketball team walking underneath the open window in the dorm parking lot below, and she said, "Hey, you should ask 'Big Al' to take you! He has a car! And I've heard he thinks you're cute!"  :)

I looked down and saw 'Big Al,' who was the 6'11" center of the men's basketball team admiring my vintage car.  So, in an uncharacteristically bold move, I yelled out of the window to this giant of a guy that I'd never even met:  "Hey, 'Big Al,' can you give me a ride to the auto parts store to buy brake fluid for my car?"  Without hesitation, he yelled up, "Sure!"  Then, he turned to his roommate and said, "Hey, I loaned my car to a friend, let me borrow your car!!"  ;)

So, 'Big Al' took me to get brake fluid, and then stuffed himself into my little sports car, so we could make sure the brakes were working.  (He claims I almost killed him during the test drive, but I choose not to comment on that part of the story!)  ;)

Neither of us saw it coming, but it was "love at first sight!"  We had our first date the next week, were engaged a year later, and married the following May.  Now thirty years later, ten people can blame thank us for their existence, and we are about to embark on the next generation, with our first grandbaby expected to make her debut in December!  So, it was definitely a day that changed the course of history!  :)

How did you meet your husband??  Can you top my story?!?  ;)  I'd love to hear your love story!  Please share it here or over on my Facebook page!

Thanks for sharing your story! I "stalked" my guy at training to teach 5 day clubs! I have pictures of the whole lunch line for a reason1 Now, I went determined not to be "looking" and we weren't allowed to "date" while we taught....but leaders who knew us put us together to teach, even though it wasn't logistically the thing to do....then told me " we thought something like this would happen". He waited 4 years while I did college like my dad wanted (he was seven years older) and we've been married 25 years-and have ten children

I was 14 and Daniel was 17. We grew up 3 miles of country dirt roads apart but had never met, though I had seen him (and wasn't interested) a few times and was a cheerleader with his sister. We were both doing a relay for life event at the high school where he was going to be a senior and I was going to be a freshman. He was outgoing and silly. I was shy and ornery. I refused to even tell him my name at the beginning of the evening but in a town that small it didn't take him long to find someone who knew me...his cousin. By the end of the evening I was in love. His cousin told me later "whatever you do, don't date him!" Lol. I'm so glad I didn't listen. We dated for a year and then I got pregnant. We were married when I was 16, he was 19, and our firstborn was 6 weeks old. Soon after we were married we were both saved and God got ahold of all of us and nothing has been the same since! There's SO much of our story that wasn't what it should have been and yet faithful to his promise, God has used it all for good! We have been married for 8 years and have 5 children. The first years were unbelievably difficult but as we have surrendered different things to the Lord he has blessed us beyond what we could have imagined!
