Who Turned Out the Lights? {Review and Giveaway!}

One day last month, during a difficult string of days caring for my Mom, where I found myself wrestling with God over why He was allowing her to suffer so much when she had already endured a lifetime of suffering, I discovered the following verse:

I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places that you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, I am the God of Israel.  ~ Isaiah 45:3

I sensed the Lord speaking to me through that passage, assuring me that He was with me and that He was teaching me rich treasures of trust in those dark days when I doubted His goodness.

After I shared that verse on Facebook, my friend, Candy Reid, whom you "met" this week through her testimony on my Marriage Monday post, commented on my status, reminding me that that her book, Who Turned Out the Lights: Finding Treasures in Life's Dark Places, was based on that very passage!!

I soon had Candy's book in my hands, and before I realized what had happened, I had read the whole thing (70 power-packed pages)!  Once I started reading it, I just couldn't put it down!  Candy's story is compelling; her style is conversational and real; her treasures from the Lord life-changing.  While reading her book, I felt like we were sitting together in her living room, sipping coffee, with our Bibles and hearts open, sharing the secrets that God had revealed to her during some very dark places.

Her faith was shaken, but not destroyed; her heart was shattered, but not broken beyond repair.  As the tender hands of the Great Physician mended her hurting heart and healed her, He wove in hidden treasures of truth that made her faith stronger than ever.  The purpose of her book is to share the priceless treasures that God entrusted her with, so that we can cling to them when we face trials of our own.

Here is one of the treasures that she shares:

Trust that the very name of Jesus is above anything you're facing. If you can name it, loneliness, cancer, unemployment, confusion . . . anything, He is above it. And He is well able to deliver you from it or take you through it, all the while working things for your good and His glory.

This little book is itself a treasure that you will want to hold close to your heart, along with the Word of God, as you navigate the dark places that God is leading you through. If we are listening, God will give all of us treasures in the darkness.

I've spent the last 9-1/2 wks in a wheelchair due to a fractured pelvis. I have 3 more wks and hopefully I will be healed and able to walk. I have been through a time of depression and pity partying. This book sounds great. Thanks for chance to win.

I like the title of this book and what you shared about it as I have traveled through some dark days too. You said that your mother has had difficulties in her life (forget the way you said it) and I would love to hear her story/testimony on why it was hard and how she had victory.

There is so much power in the name of Jesus-something I am newly learning about. I loved the excerpt from the book. I'm always looking for ways to build up my marriage and help others so I know the book would be a resourceful tool.
