This beautiful woman, who was friends with my oldest daughter growing up, is now the busy mother of four young children, and about to blessed with her fifth! I can't help but think of this verse:
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD. ~ Psalm 113:9
I wonder -- are you a joyful mother of children??
I understand how it is -- there is never enough money, never enough time, never enough sleep, never enough hours in a day for a busy mama! It is so easy to grow discouraged! I know how easy it is to focus on our problems, to worry about the future, to fret over what doesn't get done, to become downcast and discouraged; however, we are instructed to rejoice always, to give thanks for all things, and to pray about everything!
Yes, we are weak and tired, but "the joy of the Lord is our strength." And not only our strength -- it infuses strength into our entire household!
Sometimes we may be weighed down with decisions that need to be made and don't know which path to take, but if we seek Him, God promises to give us wisdom, to direct our paths and to show us the path of life where there is "fulness of joy."
Even when we go through seasons of darkness and difficulty, there is hope. God's Spirit can give us the oil of joy instead of mourning, and clothe us with a garment of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness!
So here is your challenge for today. See how many you can complete and then come back and leave a report in the comments! :)
- Smile right now.
- Thank God for everything that comes your way for the rest of the day.
- Rejoice in the Lord and His salvation.
- Find a verse on joy, copy it, carry it with your through your day (either on paper or in your mind and heart).
- Smile at your husband.
- Tell a silly joke that makes your kids giggle (or groan!).
- Laugh over "spilled milk."
- Give each one of your children a 100-watt smile!
- Throw your head back and laugh!
"It is pleasing to God whenever thou rejoicest or laughest from the bottom of thy heart."
