From my Front Porch ~ October 4, 2013

from my front porch

Welcome back to my weekly series, From my Front Porch, where I share updates from my home and family. My hope is that you'll fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea, or perhaps even a glass of lemonade, and imagine us sitting together on my front porch, chatting about life and catching up on the latest news!  I hope you'll join me each Friday on My Front Porch!

I was determined to get this post up on time this week, but as life goes, I had one interruption after another.  Not only that, but our internet was down during the entire time slot I had set aside to work on it!!  :( So, once again, my post is late going up! Hopefully you believe in the adage, "Better late than never!"  ;)

We've had an entire week of beautiful "front porch days."  Although I would love for the temps to be about ten degrees cooler, I'm still thankful for a refreshing break from the heat and humidity that characterizes the deep south.

I enjoyed wearing a new fall outfit to church on Sunday. Perhaps you'll enjoy seeing this picture of me on my front porch!

Around the House

Back in the spring, I was taking you on a tour of my new house. Remember? We had just finished visiting all the rooms downstairs before my tour was interrupted by the events of my summer. Now that I'm back home and resettling into a routine, are you ready to go back and finish the house tour?  If so, let's start at the front door and walk up the front stairs.  I'll give you time to stop and look at the family picture gallery on your way up!  ;)

By the way, Joe and Abby sent me a couple new photos for my wall for my birthday!  :)

There's a landing half way up, and the stairs turn to the left.  When you get to the top, you reach this open hallway or "catwalk" which connects opposite ends of the house.

Here is a picture looking up at the hall/catwalk/balcony from the family room below.

This picture is taken from the opposite end, looking back towards the stairs we just walked up.  I made the decision to turn this hallway into a "book nook," so before we even moved into the house this past spring, Chris and Luke put together these bookcases from for me. I love the way the black wood ties in with the black wrought iron railing.

This is what they look like filled with some of our nicer looking sets of books. The hall to the right leads to the upstairs laundry room, the "calculus cave," and the bonus room!

Next week, we will start exploring some of the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs, and we will eventually work our way down to the bonus room.

Family News

Are you a baseball fan?  I'll admit -- it's not my favorite sport.  It's a bit too slow-paced for me, but I've learned to appreciate it to a certain degree.  My husband enjoys following the Atlanta Braves, and he has on his "bucket list" to visit all of the major league stadiums!  So, while we were in Boston, it was only natural that we would take in a Red Sox game!

It was a beautiful night for a baseball game, with just enough of a chilly breeze to make you want to snuggle!  :)

Going to Fenway Park was a really neat experience!  So much history there, and it really felt like stepping back into time!  I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience it!

Next Friday, I'll tell you about another item on my husband's "bucket list" that we were able to knock out while in Boston!

Thanks for stopping by my front porch for a visit!  If you have time, please drop by and visit with my dear friend, Lori. She blogs from the front porch of her cozy little log cabin nestled in the woods of the South Carolina mountains.  You will enjoy her warm and witty writing style!  Tell her that Elizabeth sent you!  :)

Please join me again next Friday on my front porch!!
