Welcome back to my weekly series, From my Front Porch, where I share updates from my home and family. My hope is that you'll fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea and imagine us sitting together on my front porch, chatting about life and catching up on the latest news! I hope you'll join me each Friday on My Front Porch!
You'll be glad to know that I somehow managed to not only survive, but enjoy my marathon weekend! :)
We kicked off the weekend last Friday night with Josh's pinning ceremony! At the beginning of his nurse's training, his class was warned not to work a job, get married or have a baby during nursing school! However, Josh did all three! :) He was also faced with numerous other challenges and difficulties not of his choosing. There were times we didn't think he would make it -- but he did!! We are so proud of his hard work and perseverance that allowed him to complete the arduous RN, BSN program!
After the pinning ceremony, we hurried home to greet Joe and Abby and to put the finishing touches on our supper -- a coastal Georgia favorite -- Shrimp and Grits!! Yum!! :) (You can read about Abby's Graduation here.)
Saturday morning was a beautiful day on the Georgia coast -- perfect for a graduation. (Or for going to the beach, but we stuck with the graduation!)
We were so proud of both of our boys -- Josh and Tyler! Josh, who my Mom claims is the most prayed for graduate ever, earned his RN, BSN degree through much blood, sweat and tears! :) He is our fourth-born child and the third to graduate from college. Tyler, who became a part of our family when he needed a place to live during his last couple years of college, earned a degree in Elementary Education. Graduating with a perfect 4.0, he was also the Valedictorian and gave an amazing charge to his fellow graduates! He started off boldly giving all the credit to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and encouraged all the graduates to use their talents, skills and education to serve others! He is truly an amazing young man!
Alan and I had the honor of getting our picture taken with this year's top graduate! :)
That afternoon we hosted a graduation party at our house for Josh and Tyler, where we celebrated their accomplishments. I lost count, but I think we had about 40 people in our house!! :) Crazy, but fun! :) We are so thrilled for Josh and Tyler both!!
We ended the day by pulling together a feast for about 20 people! :) Alan grilled chicken thighs and sausage, made baked beans and baked Vidalia onions. I made Sauteed Cabbage and Bacon, and a vegetable medley of squash, zucchini, onions and mushrooms.
Believe me, we slept well that night!! :)
Sunday was a great day at church followed by more celebrating . . . Mother's Day and Alan's birthday!! (Yes, we have a special knack for doing everything at once around here!) :)
Alan and the kids made our delicious Sunday dinner -- Baked Salmon, Orzo pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese, Buttered Carrots and Broccoli. After dinner, we actually relaxed at a nearby swimming pool, which was Very Nice!
Then we said good-bye to Joe and Abby, who had to return to Florida, and hello to little Sarah, whom we got to love on for a couple days while her Mommy and Daddy enjoyed some time together. They celebrated their second anniversary on Monday, and Alan and I celebrated our thirty-first anniversary on Wednesday! You can read more about our special days by clicking here.
Whew! I'm tired just telling you all about our busy week!! :) I bet your week was busy too -- did you have any graduations, weddings, or other celebrations? I'd love to hear about them!
Thanks for stopping by my front porch for a visit! I'd love for you to take a moment to "sign my guest book" (leave a comment!) so I can know that you stopped by and enjoyed your visit! Please join me again next Friday on my front porch!
