Welcome back to my weekly series, From my Front Porch, where I share updates from my home and family. My hope is that you'll fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea and imagine us sitting together on my front porch, chatting about life and catching up on the latest news! I hope you'll join me each Friday on My Front Porch!
Last Friday morning about 8 am our family circled up in the driveway, held hands, and listened as "Coach" gave out last minute instructions and prayed for God's protection on all of us as we traveled. We had fourteen people traveling together in three vehicles for a total of 650 miles on a holiday weekend!!
Fortunately, God had us all in the "palm of His hand" and carried us safely to our destination in northern Virginia for Alan's nephew's wedding.
The wedding ceremony and reception took place Saturday afternoon in Alan's sister's beautiful backyard! It was a gorgeous day and her yard was so lush and green and very nicely landscaped! It was the perfect setting for a beautiful "garden wedding." :)
The following collage contains pictures of the bride and groom, Anastasia and Jason, my son, Josh, with his sweet little daughter, Sarah, and my son, Joe, and his wife Abby!
I was so excited about having the whole family together and had planned to get a family picture taken at the wedding! Would you believe I let the moment slip by with no picture?? I know, I know! I can't believe it either! In my defense, there was never really a good time to do it, as Ashlyn and Hannah stayed busy the whole afternoon capturing the wedding with their Nikons. Fortunately, Alan did manage to capture this picture of all the cousins with his iPhone while Ashlyn was taking the official photo of the group. So, this picture contains all of the cousins (and spouses) except for Ashlyn! :( Janet and Ralph have three sons, the groom, Jason, who is obviously in the center, and Matthew and Zachary, who are on the left with Matthew's girlfriend, Diana. Everyone else belongs to me and should look familiar to any regular reader of this blog! :)
On Sunday morning, Alan took the family sightseeing in DC, while I had some "Marmee" time with sweet Sarah! :)
This is what happens when small city peeps ride to the Big City of DC on the Metro! :)
Alan grew up in the suburbs of DC, so he enjoys leading excursions into the city and sharing our national treasures with others. This was Kristi's and Abby's first time to visit our nation's capital and see the amazing sights, such as these:
As you can tell, everyone had a great time exploring our nation's capital, but they came back exhausted from all the walking and the heat! We spent the evening with Janet and Ralph and their family. Monday morning arrived all too soon, and we had to get back in our vehicles and make the long trek back home. Fortunately, we arrived safely and thanks to Josh and Kristi, who ordered and picked up some of our favorite BBQ and a birthday cake, we snuck in a little celebration of Tay's 24th birthday as a grand finale of our whirlwind weekend! :)
I hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend and made memories with your family too!
Thanks for stopping by my front porch for a visit! I'd love for you to take a moment to "sign my guest book" (leave a comment!) so I can know that you stopped by and enjoyed your visit! Please join me again next Friday on my front porch!
