From my Front Porch ~ October 3, 2014

Welcome back to my weekly series, From my Front Porch, where I share updates from my home and family. My hope is that you'll fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea and imagine us sitting together on my front porch, chatting about life and catching up on the latest news!  I hope you'll join me each Friday on My Front Porch!

Last Saturday was my birthday!  In the morning I felt compelled to clean house, so that I could actually sit down later and relax in peace!  (I was glad for that decision later!)

The kids had a youth activity at church that evening, so Alan had offered to take me out to eat wherever I wanted to go. But, as you may remember, we had just gone out to eat seafood on Thursday in celebration of meeting on that date 33 years earlier!  Also, I knew Alan would want to watch the South Carolina football game that night, so I suggested we get some Southern Soul BBQ and eat at home.  (Another decision I would be thankful for later!)

So, that evening we were just sitting around watching the game, when this surprise arrived at my front door:

Can you believe it??  What an Amazing Surprise!  I loved getting to see Joe and Abby, who live about 2 1/2 hours away!!!  :)

On Sunday, we all went to church together, and then Alan and the kids made me a special birthday dinner, and then we enjoyed cake and ice cream and presents.  So, I somehow managed to have not just a birth-day but a Birthday Weekend this year!  :)

Wednesday was Chris's birthday!  Check out his awesome new birthday T-shirt!!  ;)

Yes, what you suspect is true . . . we've eaten entirely too much birthday cake and ice cream this week!!!!  :)  (And the scales confirm that!)  :(  Fortunately, birthday season is winding down . . . just in time for the holidays!  ;)

So excited that October is here . . . we've already renewed our love affair with pumpkin!  :)  Yes, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, homemade pumpkin spice lattes, and I can't wait to make a pot of pumpkin chili!!!  :)  What's your favorite pumpkin recipe?  Please share!

I know that many of you loved the September Flexi-of-the-month from Lilla Rose. It is now retired and the October FOTM is here ~ Autumn's Delight!  This new style is the epitome of fall! Check out the lovely hairsticks too! Click her to visit my Lilla Rose website, where you can purchase, or just admire, all the lovely but practical hair jewelry.

Thanks for stopping by my front porch for a visit! I'd love for you to take a moment to "sign my guest book" (leave a comment!) so I can know that you stopped by and enjoyed your visit!  Please join me again next Friday on my front porch!

It looks like you had a great week. I love your son's shirt. It would be perfect for many people in my home too.

I really love your blog and the inspiration it gives me. I thought I would share my families' favorite pumpkin recipe. I usually cook completely from scratch but this recipe does use a cake mix. It's worth it!

1 package yellow cake mix (Duncan Hines Butter Golden)
1/2 cup butter, melted
3 eggs, divided
1 can (30 oz) pumpkin pie mix
1 can (5 oz) evaporated milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, butter and one egg. Set aside 2/3 cup for topping. Press the remaining mixture into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish. In a mixing bowl, beat the remaining eggs. Add pie mix and milk; pour over crust. Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over pumpkin layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 1 hour. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until chilled before cutting.
