Marriage Monday: Project P31: Strength and Honor are Her Clothing

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  I'm so glad you've joined me as we focus on strengthening and promoting godly marriages, both in our nation and in our own backyards.  {The need for this has never been greater!}

Today I am continuing my series for wives (and future wives) based on the ideal wife of Proverbs 31. It is both fun and challenging to look at this passage verse by verse and then examine our own lives and look for practical ways to apply these timeless principles. Please join me each Monday as we continue to examine the character and wisdom of this noble woman and learn how we can each become a Model P31!

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
~ Proverbs 31:25

These simple words speak volumes about our P31. Her clothing, her adornment, what people notice about her most is not her well made "silk and purple," but her strength and honor.

She is physically strong, because she works hard physically from morning until night. She has no need of a "gym membership" to strengthen her arms, because her life includes physical labor, and she is no slacker!

She is also strong mentally, emotionally and spiritually, which are intricately woven together, because her life flows from a fear of the Lord, and like David, she strengthens herself in her God.

Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. ~ 1 Samuel 30:6

This woman's strength also comes from her character. This strength of character is what gives her honor or dignity.

She doesn't seek honor from others. She is simply an honorable, worthy, virtuous woman.

Her righteousness, her faithfulness, her wholehearted trust in the Lord all produce an inner peace and confidence, which are evident in her outward strength and honor. She is a noble woman -- a woman of great influence in her home and her community.

Of course, she has problems, and the news coming out of the city gate may be troubling at times, but she exhibits the unworried peace of someone who knows that her fate rests with God, someone who holds fast to God’s promises of protection and provision and salvation. She not only refrains from worrying about tomorrow, she actually rejoices when she thinks about her future, knowing that God is in control!

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I will praise Him.

Psalm 28:7

Especially for Single P31s:

Strength and honor are certainly within reach for ever single woman who fears the Lord, who rests in His providence and who waits on His timing. Forget about the latest fashions and fads, and focus on clothing yourself in the timeless beauty of peace, contentment, and holy living.

Project P31, Mission #14:

Time for a new assignment!

This is a good time to consider your inner and outer wardrobe --- are you clothed with strength and dignity and honor? Are the clothes hanging in your closet fitting for an honorable woman? Do you feed your mind with worthy, honorable books and entertainment?  Is your life characterized by a fear of the Lord or a fear of man and a fear of the future??

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and life.  ~ Proverbs 22:4

What a beautiful appearance we would have if we focused more on living a life that honors God and demonstrates dignity to all we meet, Elizabeth. That, of course, is something that can only be "put on" in the recesses of our hearts, but thankfully doesn't change with the fads or seasons! Thanks for this challenge to pursue a more godly life, my friend!
