Marriage Monday: Project P31: She Makes Herself Strong {Link up}

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  I'm so glad you've joined me as we focus on strengthening and promoting godly marriages, both in our nation and in our own backyards.

Today I am continuing my series for wives (and future wives) based on the ideal wife of Proverbs 31. It is both fun and challenging to look at this passage verse by verse and then examine our own lives and look for practical ways to apply these timeless principles. Please join me each Monday as we continue to examine the character and wisdom of this noble woman and learn how we can each become a Model P31!

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.  ~ Proverbs 31:17

As a modern woman you may be a bit thrown off by the phrase, "girdeth her loins with strength." Let me explain. In biblical days, both men and women wore long flowing garments, which they gathered up and tucked into a belt (girdle) before going on a journey or tackling a job.  So, we might translate that phrase into "she putteth on an apron" or "she putteth on her workout clothes" before she gets down to the serious business of working in her home!  I've noticed that being dressed for my work does make it easier to get started!

Now, let's take a look at this passage in the Amplifed version of the Bible:

She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.  ~ Proverbs 31:17 (Amp)

One thing is for sure, this woman was not soft or weak!  She was not afraid of hard work and she was certainly not sitting around all day! She filled her days from early in the morning until late at night with productivity, and she worked hard with her hands.  If you've ever kneaded bread dough by hand, you'll have no doubt that her arms were strong and firm!  :)

What is her secret?  Once again I quote from one of my favorite authors, Elizabeth George, from Beautiful in God's Eyes

She knows her goal: she's on assignment from God to build a home (Proverbs 14:1) and is therefore highly motivated. She wisely plans her days so that each one of them moves her toward her goals and dreams. She works -- and she works hard -- never procrastinating, always using her time well, focusing her plans and her energy on making her dreams come true.

This woman's fear of the Lord and her time spent gaining nourishment from God's word early in the morning, provided the spiritual strength she needed to tackle her demanding schedule. The vision she received from the Lord and the dreams He put in her heart, gave her the motivation and determination to work hard. Then, her willingess to spring into action, working diligently on the tasks at hand, strengthened her physically to perform the work that was a part of her day.

Her mental toughness is crucial, because we all fight the battle over hard work in our minds.  It's our mental toughness, our self-discipline that causes us to win the first battle of the day -- the one with the sheets, and to continue to win over our flesh as we choose to get up and make supper, wash dishes, vacuum the carpets, mop the floors, train our children, or help a family in need, instead of sitting in our favorite chair reading a book, watching TV or browsing the internet.

But, even the virtue of hard work is not very effective without a plan!  We have to know where we are headed and have a plan to get there! Then we follow through with self-discipline and diligent effort.

I love the exhortation from leadership expert, John Maxwell, to make everyday a masterpiece!  How?  By our decisions and our disclipline.  John Maxwell explains:

Good decisions minus daily discipline equals a plan without a pay off.  Daily discipline minus good decisions equals regimentation without a reward.

A P31 combines her spiritual, mental and physical strength to live a life of purpose, to create a daily plan of action, and to put forth the physical effort needed to accomplish her goals and make her dreams for her home and family a reality!

Especially for Single P31s:

If you are a single woman, you are in the perfect season of life to begin your "strength training!"  You can begin now to exercise your faith, seek the Lord for purpose and a vision for your life, and begin a daily "workout plan" that strengthens you for the work the Lord has for you!  You can also work to strenghten your mind by filling it with the Word of God and by making the hard choices vs. choosing the path of least resistance.  Then, you can follow through with physical work and exercise that strengthens your body so that you will be strong and capable for all the Lord calls you to do, whether as a single or married P31!  (He needs both, you know!)  :)

Project P31, Mission #7:

Your mission for this week is to look for ways to strengthen your mind and body for the work the Lord has for you to do. If you don't know what God's purpose is for your life, ask Him to reveal it to you. Then, create a daily plan that helps you fulfill the purpose that you believe God has for your life. Begin to discipline your mind by making the hard choices. What is one hard choice you can make this week?  Then, look for ways to be more active throughout the day, working hard physically to strengthen your body as you build up your home and family. How can you squeeze more physical activity into your days?  What is one hard job you've been putting off that you can tackle this week??

Marriage Monday: Pursuing the Field of your Dreams {Link up}

Welcome back to Marriage Monday!  I'm so glad you've joined me as we focus on strengthening and promoting godly marriages, both in our nation and in our own backyards.

I'm sorry for being Missing in Action here the last couple weeks!  We traveled out of town two weeks ago and then had company for Easter weekend, followed by Spring Break week, and I just never found time or quiet enough to gather my thoughts into a blog post!  :)

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: With the fruit of her hands she planteth
a vineyard.
~ Proverbs 31:16

You know how I love the Amplifed version of the Bible, for giving me insight into various passages. Let's take a look at this passage in the Amplifed version:

She considers a new field before she buys or accepts it [expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties]: with her savings [of time and strength] she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard. ~ Proverbs 31:16 (Amp)

I love how the excellent wife prayerfully considers expanding to a new field before she does so. One common pitfall for modern women is taking on more and more activities and responsibilities, until we are totally in over our heads! I love the reminder to not take on so many new commitments that we neglect our present responsibilities and priorities!

The virtuous woman is a wise steward of her time and resources, always seeking to invest both profitably. She is prudent in her decision making, resourceful and entrepreneurial.

She rises early to care for her family and get her servants working productively, as we saw last week.  Her wise management of her home enables her to have the time and energy to invest in other "fields of opportunity" that will enable her to increase her family's well being.  Yet, she doesn't neglect her home and family in the process.  She expands prudently.

The secret to her success?  She knows that her first priority (after the Lord) is her husband and family!

A P31 remembers her priorities!!  She focuses on building her own house (Proverbs 14:1), building an honorable name for her family (Proverbs 22:1), and building up the next generation (Proverbs 31:28), before building a business!  Also, she's not focused on "building a name for herself" but on building up her husband and her family!

I love what Elizabeth George says in Beautiful in God's Eyes:

God's beautiful woman's supervision of her home, her oversight of the budget, her labor for her family, her doing without, her thrift, her saying 'no,' and her time spent getting the best bargains -- all of these efforts pay off in money saved and lead to her dream becoming reality. Clearly, one of her financial goals is earning and saving money she could use not for herself, not for trifles, but for making her dreams for her family come true!  Because of her dreams, her family is served! They benefit.

I really love that!  There is nothing wrong with a woman having dreams and earning an income to bless her family. But something is wrong when she sacrifices her husband and children in the process!!  A wise woman {mother} will look for ways to earn an income from home, so she can be present with her children as much as possible!

Do you have a dream?  Elizabeth George, shares how dreams can become reality for the P31. She says, "Behind very success story is plain ol' hard work -- powered by love for family, a vision of their well-being, a dream about how to make that happen, and God's gracious blessing!"

Especially for Single P31s:

If you are single, you have the advantage of having more time and freedom to pursue your dreams and explore different opportunities. I encourage you to consider fields of study and career options which can be done part time or from home, so that you will have more family-friendly options available to you in the future.

Also, while you are still young is the perfect time to begin the progression which leads to success.  The excellent wife of Proverbs 31 started with virtue and right priorities, and added a willing heart and an industrious spirit which enabled her to wisely invest her time and resources and led to her eventual success.

Project P31, Mission #6:

Your mission for this week is to look for ways to wisely save and invest your time, money, talents, and other resources.  First of all remember that a penny saved is more than a penny earned!  Secondly, if you need to add to your family's income, I encourage you to look for ways to make money from home.

I've been blessed to discover two amazing businesses that are perfect for moms at home. I love that I can fit these opportunities into the nooks and crannies of my days!  First of all, Lilla Rose, is a fun business for women and their daughters who love pretty, functional hair accessories! If selling unique hair jewelry online, through home parties, or at craft fairs appeals to you, you might be interested in learning more about being a Lilla Rose consultant.  If you are interested in health and wellness and love helping people feel better and lose weight, then you might be interested in learning more about the amazing opportunity available with Plexus Worldwide! I am so grateful to have discovered the Plexus products and business which are improving my family's health and wealth! (Message me if you'd like to know more about either of these opportunities for making an income from home!  I'd love to tell you more!)
